
Marcelo Valdes
Before joining SALA Architects, Marcelo worked as an architect in Europe and had his own architecture firm in Uruguay. He received his Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees from the Universidad de la Republica, Uruguay. He went on to receive a Post-Graduate Diploma from the Institute for Housing Studies in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and a Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota.
Marcelo's background is mainly in residential architecture and he has designed and built houses using brick and concrete systems in his native country. Upon coming to the United States he did research on wood construction, and is interested in the efficient use of design, building systems and materials to generate unique dwellings.
Marcelo has been teaching design studio at the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis since January of 2000.
