Fisher Residence
Boone County, Iowa
The home is located on the ridge of a wooded hill that slopes into the boundaries of Ledges Park in Boone County, Iowa. It has a simple, linear layout with unobstructed views of the forest that slopes down at both ends of the house. The middle section that sits at the top of the ridge has ground access to the entry driveway and opens straight into the forest in the back. Two lower level guest bedrooms and swimming spa have walk out access to the forest under the screen porches that “fly” above. View a slideshow of the Fisher Residence.
The owner and contractor’s respect for nature and interest in sustainability promoted some interesting green features:
- Use of local materials, like Iowa Limestone for the walls and floors, and Pella windows, manufactured nearby.
- Close circuit geothermal system for cooling and heating.
- Reuse of old growth trees: the main door came out of an old Black Walnut and the pool table out of an Ash tree that existed on the site and could not be saved.
