Heath Lake Home

New London, Minnesota

By breaking apart the massing of this large home into smaller, asymmetrical forms, the overall street impression is of an accreted, and welcoming village. The original lake cottage is still recognizable and is grafted to its new neighbors by a sliver of glass. It now serves as a library and office. The terraced roof of the curved glass living space separates the garage and guesthouse from the couple's second level suite. A separate tower stair services the guest quarters while the top most room, when lit at night, is seen as a lantern to those on the lake.

Designed by Katherine Hillbrand with Donald Rowe.
Structural engineering by Jerry Palms of Archistructures.
Built by Warren Erickson of Energy Concepts Builders.
