Kohlstedt Cabin

Tucker Lake, Gunflint Trail, Minnesota

The Kohlstedt's are an active outdoors family. They wanted a different take on the traditional cabin.

On July 4th, 1999, a massive thunderstorm passed through Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area. An estimated 2.5 million trees were blown down in winds that exceeded 100 MPH. The site for the Kohlstedt's cabin was at the center of the storm.

Shortly after the storm we started designing what would be a place of respite amidst the chaos.
