September Stillwater, Minnesota
The design of September is a marriage of family and community into a compact, contemporary home for four in the context of a small-town, early 20th century neighborhood. The team of clients, architects and builders, all local, collaborated on a modestly priced, energy-efficient and LEED-inspired structure. A first floor of casual family living, inside and out, is infused with traditional wood floors, glu-lam beams and energy-efficient appliances. A second floor of three bedrooms and two baths is snuggled under a low, well-insulated roof. The home is furnished with a simple, colorful collection from Autumn Cottage, the clients’ hometown store. Factory-produced advanced building materials reduce waste and are sheathed in low-maintenance composite materials, painted in a community-compatible color. See basement, first floor plan and second floor plan.
