Kohlstedt Cabin Tucker Lake, Gunflint Trail, Minnesota
The Kohlstedts are an active, outdoors family. They wanted a different take on the traditional cabin.
On July 4th, 1999, a massive thunderstorm passed through Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area. An estimated two and a half million trees were blown down in winds that exceeded 100 miles per hour. The site for the Kohlstedts’ cabin was at the center of the storm.
Shortly after the storm, we started designing what would be a place of respite amidst the chaos.
